February 15 is Marfan Syndrome Awareness Day!

Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects connective tissue. Due to this disorder, Marfan syndrome can damage various body systems and organs, such as the cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and ocular systems. 

Regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender, Marfan syndrome affects 1 in 5,000 people worldwide. Due to the late onset of symptoms, nearly half of those affected by Marfan syndrome remain undiagnosed.

To ensure early diagnosis of Marfan syndrome, it is crucial to raise awareness. Each step taken in informing the public shows how much we support the patients and those who need such help. 

This disease is not a death sentence. It is worthy to note that individuals who have achieved success despite living with this syndrome, such as: Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, Niccolò Paganini, a violinist and composer, and Austin Carlile, the lead vocalist of the band “Of Mice & Men,” who openly shares his diagnosis and actively helps others with Marfan syndrome.
