On March 21st, World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated. On this date, TMA students visited the Tskneti Day Center “Space for Development”. The students participated in fun activities with the beneficiaries of the space, painted socks together, and presented learning and developmental toys to the adults.

The initiators of the visit to the development center are TMA students, who are implementing the “Special Needs Support” social project, which aims to promote the integration of people with disabilities into the society and create an environment where people with special needs can also express their talents.

“This is an opportunity to help, strengthen an inclusive environment, and show how important and valuable each person is. The support and involvement of the community will make this process even more special,” said Tata Tatalashvili, one of the authors of the project.

“Special Needs Support” is one of the projects that won the competition for students social and cultural projects by the social grants committee at Tbilisi Medical Academy. The authors are Tata Tatalashvili, Elene Sajaia, Sesili Lazaria, and Ana Chikovani. The student’s goal is to disseminate information to society about the problems that people with special needs and their parents experience in Georgia.

Within the framework of the project, on Women's Day, the project authors also organized a public lecture on the topics: “Reproductive Health in People with Disabilities” and “The Importance of the Papilloma Virus Vaccine”. The lecture was delivered by TMA lecturer, obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive specialist Dr. Mariam Gugushvili.

As part of the student initiative, eight activities are planned over six months, including public lectures, interactive meetings, and art therapies.
